Hello tankers! Welcome to the final chapter in my series on an introduction to the basics of World of Tanks. As we have seen, there are many ways in which you can distinguish your tanks from others on the battlefield. In this final guide, we will take a look at the equipment you can put on each tank, and how that equipment can give you a unique edge over your opponent.
In World of Tanks, you can buy two different types of equipment. The first type is consumables. Consumables are items you can buy that can be used to give you boosts throughout a single battle. When a consumable is used, you must by a new one if you plan on using it again in the next battle. The other type of equipment is more on a permanent basis. These items go with your tank battle to battle and do not require repurchasing. It is important to note that if the item is labeled “Complex Equipment”, then it will cost gold to remove (real money currency). Lastly, you can equip up to three of the permanent equipment pieces per tank.
In the following, we will look at some of the more popular types of equipment that you can purchase in the game. First, we will start with the permanent equipment.
Camouflage Net:
The camouflage net reduces the chance your tank will be detected by enemy vehicles. This item is very good for tankers who like to hunker down in a spot and lay fire from a range. Scouts and tank destroyers make good use of this item as it fits their play style the most. This is also not a piece of complex equipment so it can be transferred between your tanks.
Binocular Telescope:
The binocular telescope adds 25% to your range view for a stationary vehicle. This item is great for forward scouts who have found a good spot to light up enemy targets for their team. Like the next this is also not a complex equipment so it can be transferred between your tanks as well.
Enhanced Gun Laying Drive:
The enhanced gun laying device decreases the time it takes to aim by 10%. This item is very good for all tanks since it allows you to get more accurate shots off, especially if you find yourself moving positions often. This item will also help you hit those weak spots before your opponent has a chance to move out of the way.
Large-Caliber Tank Gun Rammer:
The large-caliber tank gun rammer reduces loading time by 10%. This piece of equipment is also extremely strong on any tank, but especially those with long load times such as tanks with auto loaders. This item helps tanks with long reload times to get more shots off, and as a result, more damage on the enemy in any battle.
Toolbox:
The toolbox increases your repair speed by 25%. This item is very important for most tanks, especially Heavies. This item helps prevent your tank from being pinned down due to a damaged track, and it can help you win a gun fight if a module such as your gun gets damaged. Overall, a very useful item for tanks that wants to stay in the battle at a more optimal capacity.
Improved Ventilation Class 3:
The improved ventilation gives a 5% boost to crew skills. This item is great for tankers who are trying to level up a crew either for their skills, or to transfer that crew to another tank. This item is good for those who want to get their crew up in a shorter amount of time.
Vertical Stabilizer MK 2:
The vertical stabilizer gives a 20% boost to accuracy during turret rotation and movement. This item is extremely good in 2 ways. The first is the way that it says, a 20% boost while moving. This is great because it allows you to snap off shots without waiting for your gun to aim for a long period of time. The other way is that it permanently keeps your aiming reticle smaller while moving, and while stationary. This means that this item gives you a quicker aim time as well. Combine this item with the gun laying device and you will see yourself with a very fast aim time, and a distinct advantage.
CONSUMABLES
Fire Extinguisher
The fire extinguisher puts out a fire in your vehicle, saving it from taking crippling fire damage if left unchecked.
First Aid Kit
The first aid kit heals an injured crew member, allowing that position to work to full capacity.
Repair Kit
The repair kit repairs a damaged module. This item can save you if you lose your tracks in a bad area, or helps if another module gets destroyed which limits your effectiveness.
100 Octane Gasoline
The gasoline gives you a 5% boost to engine power and turret rotation speed. This helps your mobility on the battlefield
Items and equipment can really help make the difference of any battle in World of Tanks. With this guide, you can be better informed about the equipment available, and you can make the choice that best fits your play style. This is the last in the series of beginner’s guides, next week we will review gameplay and the inner workings of competitive World of Tanks. Until next time, roll out!
